The incident happened at around 07:00 at Inwabi Road. In a statement, PT Alarms said a woman had dropped off her husband at work and driven back home when the hijackers struck.

“The woman screamed and the victim, a neighbour, rushed to her assistance. The hijackers fired at the victim striking him on his temple and fled with the vehicle, reported to be a Toyota bakkie,” read the statement.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson, Kyle van Reenen said the victim was stabilised at the scene and airlifted to hospital by a helicopter ambulance.

“ Several advanced life support interventions were needed to stabilise him before he was placed onto a mechanical ventilator to assist him in breathing. The call was then made for the assistance of the Netcare 911 aeromedical helicopter to airlift him through to a specialist facility for the definitive care that he required” said van Reenen.

SAPS had also started processing the crime scene for evidence.
