Shongweni Dam not collapsed
According to the KZN Department of Water and Sanitation the reports on social media are untrue.

THE reports doing the rounds on social media announcing that the Shongweni Dam has collapsed have been said to be untrue.

According to media reports, the KZN Department of Water and Sanitation said the dam has not collapsed but the sluice gates were opened to relieve the pressure inside the dam as it had reached 100% capacity.
The dam is located in to the west of Pinetown and if it were to collapse, it could affect low-lying areas towards the coast, including Umlazi, Prospecton, and Chatsworth.
