Before the fly-over, Ramaphosa had met with the provincial government as well as the Durban municipality’s leadership to see what can be done to help those affected.

Prospecton was one of the areas that bore the worst of the adverse weather, with most companies suspending operations after being flooded.

Toyota, Sapref Refinery and the container terminal on Refinery Road all had to shut down and staff airlifted to safety after being marooned while on duty.

Ramaphosa said government is assessing the extent of the damage and will continues providing support to those who have been negatively affected.

“While this is a disaster, we must hold hands together as South Africans, as people of KZN and as all structures of Government. We are treating this disaster with level of seriousness it requires,” he said.

The death toll currently stands at 306 and provincial state of disaster has been declared while mop-up operations continue and loss is being added up.
