Couple arrested in Amanzimtoti for accommodation fraud

The pair has allegedly been staying for free at various establishments.

A YOUNG couple was arrested in Amanzimtoti recently for allegedly staying at various bed and breakfast establishments after providing fraudulent proof of EFT payments.

ET Rapid Response’s Tony Lokker said after receiving information about the couple, ET Rapid Response Tactical Response Team members responded to a well-known bed and breakfast in the Amanzimtoti area. They had apparently stayed at the establishment for two days without paying, and when asked for payment, the duo produced a fake proof of payment.

“The couple being sought for a case number from a case opened by another bed and breakfast, who had allegedly been defrauded also, was confronted and subsequently detained. At this point, a second case has been opened against the same couple for the same allegations,” said Lokker.

Another bed and breakfast with the same allegations will open a third case shortly. The couple has been detained by the police for further investigations.

“We advise the public and businesses in Amanzimtoti to be aware of fraudsters and to ensure due process is followed when receiving payment from suspicious parties,” said Lokker.
