The group was formed in 2014 by the late Sphamandla Shezi and has gone from strength to strength since then. Speaking on behalf of the group, Sanele Shezi said Abathokozisi Man Voices had 13 members and got its name from featuring only male voices.

“We’ve never won any award before we won the best group SICA award. To win means so much in our music journey and it gives us strength. We are so happy to see that our fans believe in us as they have voted for us in their numbers in this category,” said Sanele.

Out of all other popular music genres, the group chose gospel because it firmly believes the Word of God can be spread through music. The group has continued with that vision by releasing its first recording Emkhulekweni, a single that is available on all digital music streaming platforms.

With an ever increasing following, Abathokozisi Man Voices has performed in cities and towns around KZN and the Eastern Cape. Their next goal is to widen their performance areas in South Africa before travelling abroad. To keep the group founder’s dream alive, Sanele said they intended ensuring that Abathokozisi Man Voices would never die and would carry on their founder’s legacy.

“His spirit is still with us. We want to recruit more new young members to ensure we live forever,” he said.
