[Video] Family of three shot near Illovo Township

A father and son were shot dead while fleeing and a mother is being treated for gunshot wounds after the family's car broke down on the R603.

A FAMILY of three were shot after their vehicle broke down while travelling along the R603 near Adams Mission and Illovo Township.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson, said, “Paramedics were called to assist multiple members of a family who had been shot. It is alleged that the vehicle had broken down on the R603 and they were then approached by gunmen and shot multiple times. The family ran for their lives and unfortunately both the father and the son sustained multiple gunshot wounds and have been declared deceased on the scene and the mom has sustained serious gunshot wounds to her lower legs and is currently being stabilised.”

Gunshot shells were seen along the road near the scene of the incident.

The cause of the shooting is unknown. Police were on the scene, confirmed Jamieson.
