THE case of four men charged with the murder of taxi boss William Kunene at Seadoone Mall in Doonside in 2022 is finally set for a pre-trial conference at the Durban High Court in August.

Brothers Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande, as well as Philani Sikhosana and Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi, are accused of shooting Kunene in cold blood as he finished loading groceries in the boot of his car.

The shopping centre’s CCTV cameras caught the callous incident. Coincidentally, all four men are also charged with killing rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello Motsoane less than three months after Kunene’s death.

The Ndimande siblings later skipped the country for Eswatini, where they were eventually arrested and extradited to South Africa in November 2025.

When the Kunene killing case got going recently, only Sikhosana and Mkhwanazi were in the defendants’ dock. Advocate Lawrence Gcaba, the deputy director of public prosecutions, told the court that the J7 warrants required to bring the Ndimande brothers to court were missing.

He said the reason for that was that when the case was last postponed in 2025 to the recent date, the Ndimande brothers were still in Eswatini.

“There is certain crucial evidence that was obtained while they were in the Kingdom of Eswatini, which is required for this trial,” said Gcaba.

He asked the court to postpone the matter, which was accepted by KZN Judge President Thoba Poyo-Dlwati.

The pre-trial conference was postponed to August 13.
