Zama Nduli said the family had gone to the store to buy a few essentials when they heard a loud bang and saw people running.
“I’ve never thought I’d experience such trauma in my life with my kids. We heard someone shouting ‘Voe**ek, everybody lie down on the floor!’ My husband took the baby off the trolley, and we lay down on the floor. They then told the cashiers to open all the tills and asked for the manager. They cleaned out all the tills and even the manager’s office,” she said.
After taking all the money, Nduli said the robbers came out with a bag and told the shoppers to take out their phones.
“They pointed a gun at hubby who was carrying our baby and asked for his phone; he gave it to them. They then turned to me, and I told them we use one phone, and they left. My 10-year-old daughter was lying on top of the phone, including our car keys and the bank card. I was praying it didn’t ring because we would have been in deeper trouble,” said Nduli.
She said she was glad her daughter managed to fall asleep at bedtime as she had been traumatised by the experience and had been crying uncontrollably.
The men fled the scene in a white Renault Duster with no registration plates and a white Mercedes Benz with registration starting with NP. A case of business robbery was opened at the Amanzimtoti police station.
