Swimming ban lifted at Toti and Pipeline
Water visibility at Amanzimtoti Main and Pipeline beaches has cleared.
AFTER they were closed on Tuesday, December 12 for being muddy, Amanzimtoti Main and Pipeline beaches opened to bathers on Wednesday again after an improvement in the water quality. The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board had noted that the water at both beaches was too dirty to swim in as a result of mud and other debris caused by heavy rains.

Ethekwini Municipality executive committee member and Ward 97 Councillor, André Beetge, said the water cleared to a visibility of 6m at Amanzimtoti Main Beach, and 4m at Pipeline. Both beaches are the only ones open for swimming between Isipingo and Umgababa. All the other ones remain closed because of E. coli contamination.
“They will remain closed pending the water-quality test results,” said Beetge.
