COMMUNITY Projects, an initiative of We Feed SA, is currently underway in Isipingo, Ward 90, and it has provided an opportunity for a group of unemployed residents.

The team doing the work is comprised of 10 job seekers who are grateful for the opportunity they have been given to be productive in their own neighbourhood. The ward’s councillor, Shad Nowbuth, said the team has done some good work in Orient Hills clearing the dense bush and trimming trees opposite the public library on Citrus Drive.

We Feed South Africa’s methodology is collaborating with different communities to enable them to help themselves.

“We work with about 100 non-governmental organisations, community-based organisations and companies. The key to change is to involve not only individuals but also businesses who drive the engine of the country and organisations so we can effect change quickly and effectively,” it says in its mission statement.

We Feed SA also has a gardening project that has recently kicked off in Umgababa. That project is expected to grow food that will be distributed to the needy in the community.
