Held in Siphumelele Community Hall, the glitzy affair also showcased a lot of talent from the area’s artists and performers. Sakha Isizwe FM’s founder and the event’s organiser, Thandeka Madlala Khathi, said the day would not have succeeded if it were not for sponsors and the community coming out in numbers.

“These awards aimed to recognise those who have strived to improve their community. It was also the community who voted and chose who gets to walk away with the award,” said Thandeka.

Ward 94 councillor Puleng Hlomuka received an award of appreciation, and Sfiso Zama and Thamsanqa Gasela were awarded for their involvement in community safety structures.

Some of the winners include:

Best principal – Snenhlanhla Ngcobo, Gugwini Primary School

Best Hustler – Welile Duma
