Ward 90 councillor Shad Nowbuth said the timely intervention of eThekwini Municipality’s Fire Services firefighters prevented the fire from spreading.

“No fire-related injuries have been reported. The Disaster Management Department has dispatched a team to the area to make an assessment and take the necessary action, of which I will be informed,” said Nowbuth.

The sprawling informal settlement has seen many fires raze it to the ground over the years. In April 2023, about 350 structures burned down, leaving many residents homeless.
