Water supply interruptions remain in place in the south of Durban

Residents are urged to use water sparingly as water woes continue.

INTERVENTIONS are underway to restore water supply from the Wiggins Waterworks gravity system. This is according to eThekwini Municipality as many suburbs in the south of Durban are experiencing water supply disruptions.

“The municipality is aware of the water supply disruptions to areas whose reservoirs receive water from the Wiggins Waterworks gravity system.

“These areas are experiencing outages and intermittent supply following the completion of repairs on a section of the 1 200mm-diameter SCA steel trunk main,” the municipality said in a statement.

According to eThekwini Municipality, the trunk main underwent repairs after it was damaged by heavy rains, and this has resulted in high demands and slow system recovery post-completion of repairs.

“Field investigations are currently underway to identify any possible leaks and bursts in the pipeline. Other interventions include opening and closing reservoirs outlets to build sufficient levels on the reservoirs.

“Our teams are monitoring the system closely to fully restore water supply,” the statement read.

In the interim, residents will be supplied with water tankers.

Affected areas include:
Athlone Park, Ezimbokodweni, Amanzimtoti CBD, Almond, Kingsburgh, Doonside, Illovo Beach, Panorama Park, Umgababa, Mgobhozini, Mfume, KwaSoni, Mashiwase, Nkwali, Lovu, Bhekulwandle, KwaMakhutha, Mkhazini, KwaFakazi, KwaMgendwa, Mahlathini, Ohlongeni, eKuphileni, Adams Mission, Umnini, Magabheni, Ehlanzeni, Thoyane, Ekuhlengeni Psychiatric Hospital, AECI African Explosive and Chemical Industries, Southgate Industrial Park, Amagcino, Scottburgh Umkhomazi, Craigeburn, Amahlongwa, Amalundi, Crowder Farm, Malabar Hills, Isiphingo Rail, Reunion, uMlazi V, uMlazi Mission A, Isiphingo Beach, Isiphingo Hills, Orient Hills, Prospecton Industrial, uMlazi T, Lotus Park, Malukazi, uMlazi U and Y Sections, Prospecton Industrial, Bulwer, Glenwood, Westridge, Austerville, Montclair, Sea View, Wentworth, Woodlands, Yellowwood Park, Durban Airport, Jacobs, Merebank East, Merewent, Mobeni, Mobeni West, Prospection Industrial, Reunion, North Beach, South Beach, CBD, uMbilo, Stamford Hill, Congella, Merebank, Jacobs, Bayhead and Rossburgh.
