Amanzimtoti residents urged to reduce water usage amid recovery efforts

Amid ongoing water shortages in the Amanzimtoti area, residents are urged to lower consumption to allow the Doonside and Launceston reservoirs to fill up.

AS water supply to the Doonside and Launceston reservoirs slowly recovers, Amanzimtoti residents are urged to reduce usage in order for a full recovery by this evening, June 21.

At 08:30, Ward 97 councillor André Beetge said that, with both reservoirs recovering to above 1m overnight, and following the morning peak demand, the department will be removing the jumper from the double hydrant so all water supply is instead directed towards increasing the reservoir levels.

“Although there should be sustained supply during this period, it will remain subject to usage. Consumers are requested to reduce demand during the day so the reservoirs can hopefully fully recover by this evening,” he said.
