Arrests made after high-speed chase on R603
In an attempt to evade arrest the suspects split up, but crashed the stolen Toyota Corolla Cross in the process.

THREE men suspected of being car thieves were arrested after a high-speed chase on the R603 through Umbumbulu ended when they crashed the car they were driving on February 12.

According to media reports, the suspects had stolen a Toyota Corolla Cross from Hilton near Pietermaritzburg. The suspects, believed to be part of a syndicate, were on their way to Durban, accompanied by a VW Polo backup vehicle when they were intercepted by KwaMakhutha police station’s detectives and Amanzimtoti Crime Prevention Unit, assisted by a security company.
When the officers intercepted the suspects, it sparked a high-speed chase.
“The suspects split up, seemingly to avoid arrest, but crashed the Corolla Cross in the process. The Polo was also stopped,” read the media report.

There has been a marked increase in the thefts of Toyota Corolla Cross vehicles recently, ranking it among South Africa’s most stolen cars.
The suspects were taken into custody and will appear in court soon.
