DA appoints dedicated PR councillor to serve Ward 93
Ward 93 residents have complained for years that they do not have an accessible representative.
AFTER years of community frustration over who the Ward 93 community can take their service delivery matters to, the DA has stepped in to fill the gap. The party has appointed a dedicated proportional representative (PR) councillor, Zandile Mkhize, to serve the area.

Mkhize brings nine years of experience working in communities across KwaMakhutha, Umlazi, Folweni, Umbumbulu, and most recently, the township and rural parts of Ward 93. As of May 1, she has also taken on responsibility for the ward’s urban areas. Responding to residents’ concerns, Mkhize pledged to be accessible and proactive.
“I’ve driven through the entire ward and seen firsthand the lack of basic services. Residents can call, text, or email me — I’ll take the necessary steps to get issues resolved,” she said.
Since 2011, DA Ward 97 councillor André Beetge had been doubling up as PR councillor for Ward 93, also supporting nearby areas, including Umlazi, Vulamehlo, and Umbumbulu.
Beetge explained that the decision to appoint a dedicated councillor came amid increasing service delivery complaints and the lead-up to the 2026/2027 local government elections.
“With the political landscape shifting and the pressure mounting, it was clear Ward 93 needed focused representation,” he said.
