Ward 97 councillor André Beetge said according to the latest report Isipingo and Doonside beaches are still closed, while Pipeline, Amanzimtoti Main Beach, Umgababa and Winklespuit beaches are open for bathing.
“Karridene Beach is also open with private lifeguards on duty,” he said.
Numerous people have taken to social media, calling for eThekwini Municipality to clean up their act and ensure the beaches are safe for bathing. Many said that the festive season is when tourists flock to the area to enjoy what this town has to offer, but the poor quality of service delivery, especially to ensure that beaches are safe, will drive tourists away for good.
Officials will continue to monitor water quality and environmental conditions, and further updates will be communicated as assessments are completed.
