The KZN Department of Education, parents and the police are currently in a meeting with the school’s management to try and get learning back on track.

According to an insider, tensions started after some parents raised health concerns that some food suppliers for the tuckshop were unlicensed.

Videos circulating online have shown the destruction of property and violence that happened at the school. In one of the videos from June 1, learners can be seen setting a plastic refuse bin on fire. It is also alleged that one of the teachers was assaulted by learners on the same day.

As the disturbance continued on June 2, a voice note by an anonymous parent in a WhatsApp group asks other parents to fetch their children from school for safety reasons, as violence had flared up again. She accused a teacher who is in upper management of instigating the violence by goading the learners.

The meeting was continuing at the time of publishing. More details to follow.
