KwaMakhutha coach delivers speech at national seminar
For the love of cricket, coach, co-ordinator and teacher, Thobekile Mkhize, was selected to speak at the KFC Mini-Cricket National Seminar.
A PUSH in the right direction for the sport is what Andrew Zondo Primary School teacher Thobekile Mkhize hopes to achieve as a mini-cricket coach.
Mkhize was one of 150 dedicated volunteer coaches and co-ordinators from across South Africa’s 16 cricket unions to be honoured at the 2026 KFC Mini-Cricket National Seminar, which took place at Zimbali Estate recently.

The Durban South region schools’ co-ordinator is an integral part of sport development in township and rural areas. She represented the region as she delivered her speech.
“Through passion, commitment and hard work, I put every effort into introducing the beautiful game of cricket to thousands of young boys and girls. Through an environment that promotes inclusive learning, we as mini-cricket coaches nurture confidence and develop strong, connected communities. Our impact extends far beyond the field as young cricketers learn life skills through sport like teamwork and fitness,” said Mkhize.
She explained that as a child, she did not have the opportunity to develop in any sporting code. Since then, she has vowed to bring up cricketing talent from the grassroots level and beyond.
