BRINGING the moves, attitude and energy to the dance floor is young Amanzimtoti resident, Mieke Erlank, 11, who will compete at the Natal Festival of Dance in October.

The Rhythmic Arts Academy dancer is multi-disciplined and happily shifts between fiery, energetic hip-hop, to classy line dancing and elegant tap dancing. She previously performed at the Highland Gathering, as well as the Con Spirito Arts Festival, where she proudly scored 88% for her hip-hop routines.

 “I’ve been dancing for three years now. I love it as it makes me feel happy and calm. I do get nervous at first, but when I get on stage and the music starts, I just focus on my dancing,” said Mieke.

She exudes confidence when dancing and is eager to learn new styles and plans to take up ballet as well. Her main goal at her current level is to keep on improving and gaining valuable stage experience.

“To anyone out there considering taking up dancing, don’t be afraid to start, dancing is a great way to have fun, make friends and build confidence,” advised Mieke.

Outside of dancing, she loves to surf or to read. She lives and breathes dance, however, and can often be found watching dance videos.
