Novice Toti bowler show fierce competition in Port Natal men’s singles

Despite the humidity, a high standard of bowls was on display which promises good things to come for the club.

Congratulations to Shaun Fagan of Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC) on winning his second round game of the Port Natal men’s novice singles on Saturday, 20 February.

The ABC men’s and women’s novice singles got underway last weekend after a long break due to Covid-19 restrictions over the festive period. Despite the humidity, a high standard of bowls was on display which promises good things to come for the club. Newcomer Eddie Baker beat Fred Welch and Shaun Fagan beat Danny Ross.

Keeping the winning streak in the family, Shaun’s wife, Jaylene Fagan, beat Lesley Levy and then went on to beat Jenny Rautenbach by one shot over 28 ends. Jenny Rautenbach’s first game had also been a marathon of 32 ends where she beat Karen Glover by one shot. Karen lost her next game to Hilary Lindsay.

The first round of the Port Natal women’s novice singles will be played on Saturday, 27 February. Good bowling to ABC’s four entrants; Lesley Levy, Hilary Lindsay, Karen Glover and Jaylene Fagan.

The big chicks competition made its first appearance in several months on Sunday, 21 February, and the winning team was Greg McLeod, Clive Frank, Tokkie de Kock and Barry Bush. In second place were Jeanne Alexander, Brian Masters, Jane Coetzee and Hilary Lindsay.
