Amanzimtoti schools set for KZN hockey challenge
Young hockey players from three high schools in the Toti area are preparing to compete in the 2024 SPAR KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge.
AMANZIMTOTI High, Kingsway High and Kuswag Skool are some of the schools that will be battling it out for the Durban South Regional title of the 2024 SPAR KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge.
The tournament, which began in 2011, has fast become a firm favourite for young hockey players.
Publicist Sophie Thompson said, “Close to 75 girls’ first teams from high schools around KwaZulu-Natal will be taking to the various hockey fields to compete in the compact and exciting regionals in the build-up to the grand finals.”

Mixing the annual fixtures up, the six ‘local’ tournaments will take place first, followed by the four ‘outlying’ tournaments in KZN’s picturesque surrounds. Half of the 10 regionals are set to roll out in March.
Tipping off the April tournaments, New Forest High School will wrap up the final ‘local’ challenge, hosting the Durban South Regional at the 3 Schools Trust astro turf on April 6.
All of the regional champions will head to the tournament’s exciting conclusion – the grand finals. The top 10 teams will take to the turf at St Mary’s DSG in Kloof on July 20 and 21.
Offering a lucky hockey player a golden opportunity, eta College will be joining forces with the SPAR KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge by awarding a bursary.
Dates for the 2024 SPAR KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge:
- March 2: The Durban Central Regional hosted by Maris Stella at Durban High School.
- March 9: The Pietermaritzburg North Regional held at The Wykeham Collegiate.
- March 10: The Pietermaritzburg Central Regional hosted by Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School at the UKZN fields.
- March 16: The Durban North Regional held at Curro Salt Rock.
- March 17: The Highway Regional held at Westville Girls’ High School.
- April 6: The Durban South Regional hosted by New Forest High School at the 3 Schools Trust astro turf.
- April 13: The North Coast Regional held at Grantleigh College.
- April 20: The Sisonke and Ugu Regional held at St Patrick’s in Kokstad.
- May 4: The uMvoti and oThukela Regional held at Greytown High.
- May 11: The KZN Northern Regional held at Ferrum Hoërskool.
- July 20 and 21: The grand finals at St Mary’s DSG in Kloof.
