Sanditon returns to the screens for a final season to make you swoon

Based on Austen’s final, unfinished novel, Sanditon brings viewers a colourful and expanding universe of characters laced with humour, romance, intrigue and scandal.

Fresh new faces, adventures and will-she-won’t-she romances are the order of the day in the third and final season of the Jane Austen-inspired period drama Sanditon, which will be aired from May 11.

Rose Williams (Curfew) is back as the high-spirited heroine Charlotte Heywood, who returns to the seaside resort of Sanditon following her surprise engagement announcement at the end of season two.

Based on Austen’s final, unfinished novel of the same name, Sanditon brings viewers a colourful and expanding universe of characters laced with humour, romance, intrigue and scandal – not to mention beautiful Regency-era costumes and breath-taking coastal settings. BritBox is the exclusive home of Sanditon, with the first two seasons already available to stream on the service while you wait for this latest instalment.

In the final season we meet up again with the independent-minded Charlotte, who journeys to Sanditon with her fiancé, Ralph Starling (Cai Brigden, Summer of Rockets), for the society event of the year – but seeing past love Alexander Colbourne (Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Industry) reignites her uncertainty over where her true feelings lie. Kris Marshall (who can be seen on BritBox in Death in Paradise and its new spin-off, Beyond Paradise) is also back on screen as entrepreneur Tom Parker, full of ambitious plans to develop the town.

Meanwhile, Charlotte’s best friend, young heiress Georgiana Lambe, receives a shocking threat to her fortune. Aid comes from an unexpected quarter in the form of lawyer Samuel Colbourne, Alexander’s estranged brother. Also back in the picture is the dastardly Edward, trying to prove to his formidable aunt Lady Denham that he’s a changed man. Plus, there’s a new family in town to stir things up – Lady Montrose, a typical Austen-esque mother, desperately trying to marry off her children, Harry and Lydia, to wealthy residents of Sanditon, where “the new money is”.

Familiar faces include Crystal Clarke (Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens) as Georgiana, Jack Fox (Cheaters) as Edward and Anne Reid (Last Tango in Halifax) as Lady Denham, while newcomer Liam Garrigan (Transformers: The Last Knight) plays Samuel Colbourne, and Jane Fielding (Endeavour), Alice Orr-Ewing (Victoria) and Edward Davis (Emma) are the Montrose family.
