Rosettenville residents fed up with bar’s loud music
Residents said the bar closes at around 5am, which makes it impossible for them to get a decent night's sleep.
RESIDENTS of Rosettenville are fed up and frustrated about the loud music coming from BG’s Tin Shack Sports Bar every weekend.
According to residents, the bar harbours all sorts of people, be it underage or not.
There is claimed that during the week the place is quiet and peaceful, but as soon as the weekend arrives it is unbearable.
Residents said the bar closes at around 5am, which makes it impossible for them to get a decent night’s sleep.
One of the residents who spoke to the COURIER, on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal, said he feels as if the bar is politically protected.
“I reached out to the ward councillor and the liquor licence officials, but nothing has been done.
“Other residents have children and for children to experience such isn’t a good thing at all,” said resident.
Other complaints are that the bar’s customers urinate on the streets and break their bottles outside the bar. Residents claim that come Monday, the place stinks because of the mess and rubbish made by the customers.
Some residents said the owner doesn’t want to listen to them and that frustrates them because they don’t want to shut his bar down, but rather reason with him.
The COURIER tried reaching out to the owner several times, but he wasn’t available.
Ward 56 Clr Michael Crichton said in regards to the bar the City of Johannesburg’s Environmental Health Department is investigating the complaints of noise pollution coming from the venue.
“They have asked the complainants to submit affidavits and the auxiliary officer is looking to meet with one of the complainants at his house one evening to experience what they’re going through.
“While this investigation is ongoing, I also encourage the residents to log calls with the JMPD on 011 375 5911 and to send me a message with the reference number,” said Crichton.
