About Southern Courier
The Southern COURIER, together with the Sandton CHRONICLE is believed to be one of the oldest publications owned by Caxton.
The COURIER was the main newspaper for people in the South of Johannesburg. However, rapid growth in the area and change in demographics meant the paper had to focus more on the ‘Old South’, as compared to the more affluent areas in the area.
It is the people of the South who add life to the paper which has been part of the community since the early years of Caxton Local Newspapers.
The paper has grown to such an extent that Caxton Joburg South Branch identified a need for another newspaper, the Comaro CHRONICLE.
From boasting about extraordinary achievements by ordinary people in the South, to showing off its heritage with locations such as Gold Reef City, FNB Stadium which hosted the first ever FIFA World Cup held on African soil, the COURIER, as it is popularly known, is the paper of choice for all residents.
Through various projects in the community, the paper has strengthened relationships with schools and other non-profit organisations to have an impact in the community.
No other paper in the South of Johannesburg is as popular as the COURIER as it remains, ‘The South’s own paper’.
