“We are going to different schools in the South to plant trees with the help of Wild Route Environmental Consultants, Samsonite and Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo. Our theme is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’. We encourage the learners to pick up the litter and recycle. So we thought we cannot just talk to learners, we had to come up with something experiential, hence planting the trees. This will help them to remember,” explained Ella.

Grade Seven learner Daniella Kimpesa said she would love to see the trees grow to be strong and healthy.

“We will take care of them and water them on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.”

Also, Grade Six learner Thando Mgqatsa echoed her fellow schoolmates sentiments of taking care of the trees.

“It is our responsibility to water them and make sure they don’t die on our watch,” he said.
