NATASHA MEYER: “The most pivotal department that deserved money to be injected in was the grant money for children and elderly. Children's money was supposed to be increased with R50 and elderly with R200."
The COURIER asked our residents how they feel about the budget speech:
PHANDILE XABA: “I think they should have spoken more about land expropriation without compensation. But it was fair in other parts like the increment percentage of tobacco. Maybe after the elections we will see changes of significance when it comes to budget speeches.”
ZANELE SHEZI: “This is an insult to the poor. I thought VAT was going to be decreased, but I guess I was mistaken. A strategic plan is needed to boost our economy because we are definitely struggling.”
COLLEN BAKOS: “Many South Africans are still waiting for RDP houses. The budget should have been more on that. The minister tried to cut some things, but it didn’t work out, as we excepted.”
SELINAH MHLANGO: “This is the worst budget speech I’ve ever heard, there were no drastic changes of importance. The money is being invested on tablets for learners, what about the elderly? They also need an increment of 30 per cent when it comes to grant money.”
