WATCH: Booysens Magistrate’s Court opens

The opening of Booysens Magistrate's Court was welcomed with applause.

TSIETSI Malema, regional court manager of Gauteng, officially opened Booysens Magistrate’s Court on March 1.

The new court replaces the original branch court which provided limited services. This court is set to elevate and create access for people to report their complaints.

The court will offer services like maintenance claims, civil law services, domestic violence and a children’s court. The court comprises five in-house courts – a district, regional, civil, children and domestic – with 12 courtrooms overall.

Malema told the COURIER cases from Turffontein, Rosettenville, Haddon, Booysens and surrounding areas will be handled at Booysens Magistrate’s Court.

“Cases from the Southern areas will mostly not go to the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court anymore, but will come to us. It’s important for people to have a court near them that will strive for justice,’’ said Malema.

A few police stations have already taken suspects, who are awaiting trial, to this new court.

Malema expressed they had to overcome a few stumbling blocks while building the court.

“The few problems we came across, in my view, were only paving the road to success. The main objective is to provide justice services to our people,” added Malema.

People are advised to visit Booysens Magistrate’s Court to experience the state-of-the-art facility.
