RIDGEWAY – On Friday night around 20:45 a Mercedes Benz burnt down, corner Shakespear Avenue and Celliers Streets.

At this stage it is not clear what happened and according to Doret Kitchner who lives around the area, no injuries were reported.

Ward 54 Clr Sergio dos Santos said, “I stopped at the scene about 20:40 and phoned the fire department. They were aware of the vehicle on fire and they had been dispatched already. At about 21:15 I received information that the driver of the vehicle had picked up the vehicle from a mechanic and he felt something scraping on the ground and stopped the vehicle.

“He then realised that the vehicle was on fire. He received some minor burns to his foot. An ambulance was on the scene and treated him and recommended that he go to the hospital which apparently he refused. This is information that I received from some bystanders at the scene so I cannot confirm that this is 100% correct.”
