House sitter leaves home in a mess
When the Koen family acquired the services of a house sitting company, they returned to a house filled with unpleasant scenes.

BOOYSENS – According to Cindy Koen, the instructions to the house and pet sitter were clear, “All he needed to do was look after my bird and cats, nothing else.”
When the Koen family left for Cape Town on December 19, they were confident they left their house under the care of a capable house and pet sitter, however, it turns out they left someone who took advantage of the their home.
Unfortunately, the man who was left at their home was acting as an agent for a woman who asked the COURIER not to reveal her identity. According to the owner of the house sitter’s company, the man has been removed from her list of agents working under her name.
She said, “From now onwards, I will be screening every person who wants to work as an agent, I will also be checking for references.
“I have been house sitting for at least seven years and have built up a good reputation and I cannot afford to allow people to give me a bad name.”
When the Koen family returned on Sunday December 29, returned to a house ‘turned upside down’. Cindy said, “When we returned our place smelled like cat urine, my cat had lost weight and my bird not fed the way we requested.”
The house sitter is believed to have disregarded the rules they left behind for him and used their telephone for personal use. According to Cindy, “All he was supposed to do was call us when he arrived at our house and when he left.”
Since returning to from holiday, they have not been able to contact the man who was supposed to look after their pets the way they would have liked.
