KENILWORTH – 15-year-old Themba Zimila from Forest High was rushed to a family doctor by his parents after they learned that their son was bleeding from a scissor-cut wound.
Themba was stabbed by a friend of a friend on Monday 17 in what was meant to be only a scare. He sustained a wound, which caused him to miss school on Tuesday as he could not sleep well from the pain.
The accident occurred on second break around 12:00, after a 16-year-old from grade 10 tried to scare Themba and his friend who are in grade nine, but accidentally stabbed Themba’s left shoulder.
Themba accepted an apology from the boy who stabbed him; but on Tuesday 18 his parents were unhappy as they could not reach the parent of the boy who stabbed their son, because the cell phone number they had obtained did not belong to the parent.
However, on Wednesday 19, the parent contacted them and they met the same night to discuss the matter.
“I acknowledge that it was an accident. I am unsure on whether I should continue the case with the police. What worried me is that the boy could have easily cut my son’s throat and that would be a different story now,” said Themba’s mother, Zimila.
The boy who stabbed Themba is new to the school and he is suspended for his deviant way of playing. Nonetheless, his apology was accepted and Themba’s parents are pleased the boy realised he was not supposed to play like that.
The school’s vice-principal acted swiftly and informed both the parents of these two young men. Zimila was very happy with how the school handled the matter, as that led to her son receiving medical treatment.
“Parents should be aware of what their children take with them to school. They should get involved in their children’s lives and check their bags before they leave for school,” said Vice-Principal, sending the message to parents.
