MONDEOR – “My child’s life and others are in danger because of the brickwork which is coming down. This hasn’t just happened recently, it’s been like this for quite a while,” said one mother who wishes to remain anonymous.
The Comaro CHRONICLE contacted Gauteng Department of Education and received a response from Phumla Sekhonyane, spokesperson for the Department.
She said, “The Department is aware of the structural problem on this walkway. Our initial assessment has indicated that the cost of effecting remedial work exceeds the day to day maintenance budget of the school.
“We have referred the matter to the Department of Infrastructure Development for the implementation of remedial work. Financial provisioning for this has been made in the recently published budget. The work will commence in the new financial year which begins in April this year.”
