House robber caught with stolen items

A house robber was apprehended with a stolen laptop on Main Service Road, corner Gordon road Kibler Park in the late afternoon of Wednesday April 9.

KIBLER PARK – Community Policing Forum Mondeor received a call from a patroller in sector three advising three black males carrying a big TV and bags through the nature reserve from Branksome Heights.

Michelle Pelser from Mondeor CPF notified Saps sector three van and Sgt Olifant from Mondeor detectives, to let them know. Michelle and another patroller waited and patrolled Constantia Road, Alan Manor and Main Service Road looking for three persons dressed in the clothing that was described by the domestic worker.

“As we reached Gordon Road from Main Service Road we saw the three suspects standing in the reserve looking down. We drove past slowly, turned into Gordon Road, made a U turn and waited for SAPS. While waiting the suspects crossed over Main Service Road into an open vacant land between Main Service Road and Old Vereeniging Road.

“Two Gauteng Traffic Police 4X4 vans drove past us and we waved them down, telling them what had taken place and pointed to the direction of where the suspects were. Myself, Steve and 4 Provincial Inspectors went into the open vacant land and began to search for the suspects in the long grass. Within minutes Mondeor SAPS arrived, joining the search.

“I saw an under tunnel that went under Gordon Road to the other side of Gordon and I asked the one Provincial Inspector if we could go to the other side as I suspected they went through the tunnel. We drove and parked on Old Vereeniging looking down onto the property. We must of been there three minutes when I noticed a black male with no shirt, sitting in the long grass looking all around him,” added Pelser.

Pelser got the attention of the Provincial Inspectors, who said they couldn’t see the suspect. Eventually they spotted him with the stolen laptop from a house in Branksome Heights Kibler Park. An elderly man had been tied up and robbed in his home.

A major search ensued with JMPD, SAPS, SAPS K9 unit, Gauteng Traffic Department, Sector Two and Three patrollers, which continued for a number of hours. Two other suspects are still at large.

A case has been opened with Mondeor SAPS and will be investigated. “I would like to thank everyone who was involved. Working as a team had a positive outcome,” concluded Pelser.
