Water flows next to 300v power switch

Residents have been living with the risk for six months now.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Residents at Attwel flats have lived with water flowing on the ground just a few inches from the main power switch for over six months.

The flowing water is the result of leaking pipes that have been reported since last year December to the People’s Centre, but residents have not received any help.

The ground even turned white to show that there is always water flowing in the area except when there is no water in the entire flats – and there was no water when the photographs were taken.

One of the tenants, Ursula Njoko, said she reported the matter to the People’s Centre in South Hills, but the people who came only took measurements and never returned.

Clr Bev Turk visited the area and lodged a complain on behalf of the residence, she is due to lodge another to ensure the problem is fixed.

Residents of the flats at Delmas Street in South Hills were losing hope of ever seeing the leaking pipes replaced or fixed.

“Usually there is water here and the ground gets flooded. Lucky there is a small step next to the power switch so that helps,” Njoko added.

Clr Bev Turk will make time to visit the residents and try to help them sort out the problem.
