A joint operation across Reuven, Rosettenville, Crown Mines and the CBD removed makeshift camps on public land as the city intensified by-law enforcement.
A joint operation between the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and the City of Johannesburg targeted displaced people and illegal structures in Joburg South on September 8.
The by-law enforcement team cleared makeshift camps and structures erected on public land and road reserves across the CBD, Reuven, Rosettenville and Crown Mines.
Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Transport Kenny Kunene led the operation as part of ongoing municipal efforts to clean up public spaces.

Inspections confirmed the structures breached city by-laws, prompting their removal.
“We are here to enforce the by-laws of the City of Johannesburg,” Kunene said. “We cannot allow illegal camps and structures to take over our pavements, our parks and our roads. This is about restoring order, ensuring safety for all residents and road users, and making sure Johannesburg is a clean and livable city.”
The JMPD will roll out similar enforcement operations across all municipal regions.
