Happy hobblers and pensioners get together

SOUTH OF JOHANNESBURG – The Happy Hobbler/ Pensioners Hiking and Trail Group was started as a pensioners’ group at the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve by Noel Thornton and is now continuing with Ann Norton at the helm.
The group has grown from strength to strength and pensioners or anyone else who has a love for walking is encorgaed to come along an djoin.
The group now hikes at different venues in the South, including Thaba Traiks, Rietvlei Fram and Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve. Each of these venues has different trails and each a different terrain, which makes the hikes far more interesting and exciting.
The group has formed a small committee which gets together to organise the walks and outings. Each month the group visits different venues, such as Brookwood Trout Farm, Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens, Hennops River, and Suikerbosrand. The walkers usually bring snacks and drinks which are all put together to share. They also enjoy a braai, curry and rice or soup and bread, which the group all assists in putting together.
There are plans to have a special Christmas lunch this year and the group have said they’ll enjoy a boat trip with lunch on the Vaal River.
For the more experienced hikers every Monday at 08:00 there is a longer walk.
