Holiday fun at Forest High
All the children from three orphanages enjoyed the day at Forest High School.
TURFFONTEIN – It was perfect timing for learners at Forest High School to play host to three orphanages in their outreach programme, because it coincided with the school holidays.
About 120 children gathered at the school fields with a common goal – to have fun. Grade 10 to 12 learners enjoyed a day of games.
Forest High teacher Stanley Geldenhuis said they were preparing leaders with these programmes. “While we are preparing our learners for bigger challenges outside school, we are also giving back to the community. We are integrating these children with the community; inclusivity is vital so that they won’t feel neglected. I know the school sometimes had bad publicity, however there are more good things done by the school and its learners.
“The community supported us in this. I want to thank them, especially Calistos who gave us 150 soccer balls. In a true spirit of World Cup we appreciate the gesture,” he said.
From the playing field the programme moved to the school hall, where there were plays, singing, poetry and motivational talks with the theme, What’s your choice.
Katlego Malinga, who was the master of ceremonies for the day, told the children that there is hope for them and every choice they made will determine their future.
