Six critical in taxi accident

A taxi travelling on the N12 East at about 07:10 on Thursday morning July 3, lost control, crashing and overturning several times before coming to rest on its roof in the middle of the highway.

N12 EAST – It’s alleged by witnesses on the scene that one of the tyres had apparently burst.

ER24 paramedics attended the accident and found occupants of the taxi scattered on the scene, treating those with injuries before they could be transported to various local hospitals.

According to JMPD officers on the scene, a woman with critical injuries was airlifted to Milpark Hospital, with another five passengers with serious injuries taken to local hospitals for treatment. The rest of the eight passengers sustained minor injuries.

The accident occurred close by the Kliprivier Drive on-ramp to the N12. The highway was closed to traffic for nearly two hours.

Local authorities were on scene to investigate further.
