St John Bosco Parish hold a blanket drive
Temperatures have been dropping and everyone has been feeling the cold, especially those less fortunate than ourselves.
ROBERTSHAM – This prompted Parish Priest, Father John Thompson SDB, from St John Bosco Parish in Robertsham to initiate a blanket drive. Parishioners were asked to bring blankets for the needy or give a donation in lieu of blankets on Blanket Sunday, held on June 29.
One generous donor gave 700 blankets. All in all a total of 1 500 blankets were collected. Cash collected was used to buy more blankets.
The blankets were distributed to people collecting food parcels on a Tuesday morning at the Parish. Parishioners involved in prison ministry took some blankets to prisoners. Refugees at the Cathedral, homes for the elderly and various schools also benefited. One of them was Lerato Education centre in Jackson’s Drift, Eikenhof.
