Bodies may still be trapped in collapsed Soweto building

Three bodies were retrieved from the rubble on Monday night; this is according to SABC News report earlier this morning.

SOWETO – SABC Online reported, “The Johannesburg Emergency Services says there might still be more bodies trapped at a collapsed building in Power Park, Soweto.”

Paramedics told the SABC that the bodies were discovered by security officials working in the area.

In an interview with AM Live, Emergency Services spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi said, “Because of the amount of rubble and the size of the building, it was very difficult to assess the damage at 16:00 on Monday August 4.”

During the interview, Mulaudzi revealed that engineers were working at the site as they suspect there could be more bodies trapped under the rubble.

According to reports, “Officials had found out about the collapse when paramedics received a call from an injured man who claimed to have been part of a group allegedly trying to steal cables and metal from the building.”
