Use cellphone to log power faults

JOHANNESBURG – City Power customers can now log electricity faults directly on the utility’s website or by using their cellphones.
City Power, which distributes electricity to Joburg residents and businesses, has created a “real-time” Fault Logging System so that customers can report irregularities immediately. Faults can be logged online or using WAP-enabled cellphones.
This facility is linked to the entity’s Fault Management System to ensure that its customers receive immediate updates directly from City Power.
According to the utility’s spokesperson, Louis Pieterse, the facility was implemented in the first week of June to ensure customers had and will continue to have more direct contact and easy access to City Power regarding technical problems.
These problems, he adds, include electricity failure, lack of hot water and even street lights not functioning as normal. When logging a fault online or via a cellphone, customers must follow the steps provided on the Fault Logging Help icon.
Benefits
Faults logged through the new facility are immediately sent to City Power and are attended to straight away, as the utility is a 24-hour service, says Pieterse. The new facility is beneficial to customers as the minute their cellphone numbers appear on the fault log, all their details automatically become visible to the utility. Residents are also updated on progress made regarding their logged faults, he adds.
The fault logging facility is not the only new system at the power utility to help customers, however; it has also added an SMS Alert, Automatic Metre Reading and Electronic Bills.
Other facilities on the City Power website include a Customer Service Zone that helps with applications, making payments, energy management and understanding outages. It also carries information about the entity’s Electricity Saving Campaign.
