JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – If there is anything almost all South Africans love to do is to braai and have a couple of beers while at it.
This beauty that is ‘braaing’ is another one of our South African heritage traditions. It enables people to come together to have a good time and eat some boerewors and beef, with a little bit of pap and gravy on the side.
But we already know nothing brings strangers together like a braai! There is really no need for long introductions when there is smoke coming from delicious meat with the sauces dripping onto the burning coal.
But while we’re at it, let’s celebrate this heritage we most likely take for granted: Wednesday September 24, Heritage Day, is also braai’s day. I know there will be a braai in the COURIER’S office, will you be having braai at home or at your office?
If you recently embarked on a very strict diet, but wouldn’t mind a few beers, entertain yourself on ‘drink beer day’ on Sunday September 28.
And if you had a little bit too much on ‘drink beer day’, don’t worry because the following morning in ‘coffee day’.
The beauty of it is that you can drink coffee at your workplace while you work, in fact nothing flips the slow Monday hours like a cup of coffee followed by some short constructive ‘office gossip’.
But most importantly, get yourself prepared for elderly persons’ week starting on Tuesday September 2 until the Monday of October 6, because they taught us this heritage that is ‘braaing’.
Moreover, don’t forget the whole of September is Chicken’s month. Go ahead and throw those chicken drums and thighs on that braai’s stand.
Cheers to the braai
