Southerners show they care and donate car seats

Imperial and 94.7 were at The Glen Shopping Centre on Wednesday October 1, collecting car seats for children.

OAKDENE –  After the car seats have been cleaned and given a safety clearance the child car seats will be given to those with children, who otherwise would have to travel in a vehicle without a car seat.

By 12:30, 29 car seats had been donated to the cause but the guys who were there from Imperial were hoping to reach 100 by the end of the day.

“We are hoping to have an afternoon rush when moms are on their way home from collecting schoolchildren and then again later when people are coming from work. It will be fantastic if we can reach 100,” said Nkosana Makhanya from Imperial.

Over the last three years, 947, in partnership with Imperial, has chosen to highlight the importance of child safety during October, which is Transport Month, through the collection, refurbishment and redistribution of car seats.

Thousands of seats have been shared with those who need them through the campaign and many more families will receive the gift of safety in 2014.
