Women who dedicate their time to serving and protecting their communities were celebrated at the annual Strong Woman of the South 2026 event on August 20.

The elegant formal event was held at The View Venue in Kibler Park and brought together community leaders, SAPS members, CPF representatives, sponsors and guests to honour women who have made a meaningful difference within the Mondeor policing precinct.

The event was organised by Sergeant Elizabeth Nguni, Constable Sindiswa Nala, Michelle Pelser and Natasha Naude, who worked together to recognise women whose service often takes place without recognition.

“These women work tirelessly to support their communities. Their dedication, compassion and commitment often happen behind the scenes, but the difference they make is felt. They deserve to be recognised and celebrated for the important work they do,” said the organising committee.

The purpose of Strong Woman of the South is to honour women who have worked closely with Mondeor SAPS during the previous year. The women recognised came from different areas of community service, including Mondeor Precinct CPF patrollers, various security companies, non-profit organisations, Victim Empowerment Centres (VEC), pastors, Junior Commissioners and SAPS members. Women involved in organisations working against animal cruelty were also recognised.

The organising committee said the strength of the community depends on people who are prepared to step forward and help others.

“Community safety is not the responsibility of one organisation alone. It takes SAPS, the CPF, security companies, community organisations and caring individuals working together. The women honoured at this event are an important part of that team,” said the organising committee.

Many of the women play a vital role in victim support and social crime prevention. Their work includes assisting vulnerable people, supporting victims, helping to prevent crime and working with SAPS and other community partners.

Their contribution strengthens the work of SAPS and the CPF while providing much-needed support to people facing difficult circumstances. The committee also expressed its appreciation to everyone who helped make the evening possible.

“The success of this event was made possible through teamwork. We are grateful to the organising team, the sponsors, guest speakers and everyone who supported the celebration. Most importantly, we are grateful to the women who continue to serve their communities,” added the organising committee.

Two inspiring guest speakers, Priscilla Nana Gumede and Velaze Vinolia Mabele, owner of VelaziM, also addressed guests. They shared messages of empowerment, resilience and leadership.

“Every woman who was honoured has her own story and her own contribution. Together, they show what can be achieved when people care about their communities and are willing to make a difference,” said Nguni, Nala, Pelser and Naude.
