SAPS commemorates 16 days against abuse
16 Days of Activism means young and old, rich and poor, weak and strong stand together to fight against mental and physical abuse.
MULBARTON was visited by Mondeor SAPS as part of their 16 Days of Activism campaign against the abuse of women and children on November 26.
Communications Officer, Constable Sibongile Mnguni said: “This was a joint operation between Mondeor SAPS, D&D Tactical security and Sector 1 CPF conducted the 16 Days of Activism against women and child abuse in Mulbarton.”
Booysens SAPS Communications Officer, Warrant officer Lorraine van Emmerick made a video commenting on the importance of the campaign, which runs from November 25 until December 10.
“16 Days of Activism means young and old, rich and poor, weak and strong stand together to fight against mental and physical abuse. The only situation I feel the campaign is that abuse should be made known to everybody on a daily basis as it’s a serious crime that takes place. Please report the incidents as most of the time, abuse, be it mentally or physically, happens behind closed doors and you do not get to know about it until it’s too late,” said Van Emmerick.
According to People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA), one in every six women who die in Gauteng is killed by an intimate partner.
