Crystal Church special awards ceremony: Raising the bar

Accolades: Top achievers in the South praised

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Crystal Church proudly presented the 2015 Raising the Bar Achievement Awards, celebrating the 2014 Johannesburg South Region Matric Results.

Attended by around 1 500 people the morning of Sunday January 18 started off with a display on the LED screens of what the church stands for, followed by a 30-minute live worship service that had young and old dancing.

The event was attended by the Chief Director of the Department of Basic Education Johannesburg Region, Mr Mosibudi Makhubela (representing MEC Panyaza Lesufi), who in his address at the event thanked the role of the church during the 2014 school year.

“Johannesburg South region has steadily increased the pass rate over the past three years. This is not only through the hard work of our learners and educators, but also through stakeholders like the church,” he said.

Also in attendance were other leaders from the Department of Education, the author of A Teacher Changed My Life Book, Darren August, ANC and DA Ward councillors and community leaders who came to show their support to the class of 2014 and the current 2015 matriculates.

Senior pastor of Crystal Church Rev Carl Hendricks made a call on the community to celebrate their teachers and their remarkable contribution to the future of South Africa.

He asked the question: “Are you thinking success? Success is very hard to define, some say that success is something everybody wants to buy, but nobody wants to pay for. What let a parent look for the best performing school, why do you think a parent will drop their children off at school for 12 years; why would a domestic worker work for years in abusive circumstances to keep their children at school or university? Why would some parents do all that while others can’t even do a simple thing like attending a parent meeting, fetching a child’s report, pay a minimum fee to keep a school class light burning, but there is always money for alcohol, clubs, boyfriends, girlfriends and sometimes even drugs.” .

He reminded everyone that the value of 12 years of study is a deep investment from the parent; it is financially immeasurable.

“We have control over our thoughts and our thoughts have control over our faith, and our faith has control over our destiny,” he said.
