Getting more than you ordered

If you think ordering a takeaway meal is an easy option, not any more, as two residents in the South have found out to their detriment.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – On Monday evening, March 23 a resident from Brabazon Road, Mondeor ordered a takeaway meal from a local restaurant. At 20:00 his takeaway arrived and he went outside to his gate, opened up to receive his food and to pay.

Moments later, as he was settling his bill, three armed African men walked up to the gate and held him and the delivery man up with revolvers. They took cellphones and left the scene.

On Tuesday evening at about 19:00, a resident in Glen Road, Glenanda was waiting for his takeaway meal to arrive and when it did, so did the armed men.

It’s believed the robbers, five armed African men between the ages of 25 and 28 years old, are using an old white Mercedes C180 and following the delivery men on their motorbikes from the restaurant to the home where the resident has ordered the food.

Mondeor Community Policing Forum is advising residents to be extremely cautious if you have ordered a takeaway meal.

Do not open the gate when receiving food or any deliveries.

Always make sure you have the right amount of cash for your delivery.

If possible try to take note of any vehicles or people in your street near your gate.

Take your security panic button with you to the gate.

If a visitor arrives while the delivery man is giving you your order, do not open your gate until you know he has left.

Leave your cellphone and wallet inside the house, do not take it with you to the gate.

If you are robbed, alert the police immediately with as much information as possible, which will enable SAPS to alert members about the robbery. Try to get the registration number of the vehicle used by the robbers.
