Eikenhof – forgotten land, say residents
New buildings and small businesses are popping-up all around Eikenhof and surrounding areas, especially in the vicinity of the R550 Kliprivier Road.
EIKENHOF – This in itself could be a good thing but residents’ fear most of the buildings are illegal, without plans having been passed.
“Every week another factory is erected and many seem to be operating in waste material. A plastic recycling plant has just opened and we are sure most of the factories are operating illegally,” said concerned residents.
Most of the land around this area is zoned agricultural and residents say they have never seen any plans or notices regarding new buildings. Another huge worry is rumours of a piggery being built which will house 3 000 pigs.
Another business owner has built small houses next to his factories and a Mosque has been erected close by. “Has this business owner put in plans for the houses and Mosque?”
“A pleasure resort on Kliprivier Road often has bus loads of customers over weekends and noise levels far exceed the legal limit. Do they even have a liquor licence?”
The corner of Kliprivier Road is an eyesore with tumbledown shops. “It’s as if this side of Main Road is forgotten and some business owners can do as they please. A tavern operates opposite a primary school and rumour has it drugs are sold from one of the businesses.
“Around the corner a panel beating business, earth moving company and second hand steel business have opened.
“There is little or no visibility from SAPS. We pay our rates and get nothing in return, it’s time Eikenhof became better managed,” concluded the residents.
