Half a billion rands to be spent on fixing potholes

About R515-million of the Johannesburg Road Agency's (JRA) R1.4-billion budget will be spent on road rehabilitation and reconstruction.

In a report by Times LIVE, JRA spokesman Bertha Scheepers was quoted to have said, “We are looking at a long- term way of dealing with deteriorating road infrastructure. By resurfacing roads and reconstructing them we see fewer potholes.”

According to report, the JRA had introduced a structured approach to road management that prioritises the preservation of infrastructure, ensuring it is maintained in good condition, and preventing further deterioration.

Some major routes scheduled for a facelift are Mpumelelo Street and Wimbledon Road in Bertrams, Columbine Avenue and Bezuidenhout Street, Capricorn Drive and Bryntirrold Drive, and JB Marks Street and Riverside Road.
