Unhappy at proposed hospital

RESIDENTS in Glenanda are concerned about a proposed three-storey hospital which is planned for the land in Glenanda next to Virgin Active gym, on the corner of Kliprivier Drive and Van Beek Avenue.

RESIDENTS in Glenanda are concerned about a proposed three-storey hospital which is planned for the land in Glenanda next to Virgin Active gym, on the corner of Kliprivier Drive and Van Beek Avenue.

According to residents the application states a three-storey hospital is both necessary and desirable from a town-planning point of view and will result in a development that will blend harmoniously into the surroundings. The application also states there is a need for a hospital due to the residential expansion in the area, and since the property values in the area are high, the surrounding residents are able to afford the costs of a private hospital.

Members of Glenanda Community South Forum are, however, upset that the objection date has passed and a new hospital will put severe pressure on an already strained infrastructure. “No consultation has taken place with any of the residents regarding this matter and no traffic studies have been undertaken and the effect thereof.

“What about municipal issues concerning water and electricity? Where will the children of the staff who will be working at the new hospital attend school? Glenanda Primary is already full to capacity and there isn’t another primary school close by. And why is another hospital being built when Mulbarton Hospital is only 3km away?” they ask.

If you wish to object to this matter, please send an email to Glenandasa@gmail.com.
